Nile perch fishing in Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda

Nile perch fishing in Murchison Falls National Park is generally practiced in the area at the base of the falls. Fishing is done either from the rocks along the riverbank or further downstream in the pools from a boat.

While fishing, they will be able to observe elephants, buffalo, hippos, monkeys, crocodiles and many birds.

Fish caught using live bait/bait include Nile perch and various catfish species. A variety of smaller species (also suitable for live bait) can be caught using a spinning rod, including catfish. We recommend a rod between 2.4 and 3 meters in length and a fixed-spool or multiplier reel. For smaller species, a shorter spinning rod with 5 kg (10 lb) line is sufficient.

For Nile perch and catfish, any fixed-spool or multiplier reel with 30-35 lb (17 kg) line is suitable. This depends on personal preference and skill in handling a multiplier. For catfish and smaller species, any reel that allows you to comfortably cast small spinners will do.

Basic fishing equipment will be provided. However, we recommend that anglers bring their own equipment if possible, especially experienced anglers who are familiar with fishing techniques.

We don't have a fixed number of days. You can book fishing trips with us for anywhere from one day to several days. We'll put together a customized program according to your wishes.

Of course, you can also combine Nile perch fishing with a safari or a visit to the chimpanzees or mountain gorillas.

Non-anglers can relax at the lodge or go on a safari in Murchison Falls National Park.
